The Great Saphenous Vein-An Anatomical Study
نویسنده
چکیده
The anatomical variations are more frequently encountered in the venous system particularly in the superficial veins when compared to the arterial system. The great saphenous vein is the longest vein of the body and represents preaxial vein of lower limb. The venous anatomy is of great importance to the surgeons and sonographers. The present study included 25 lower limbs during routine dissection for undergraduate students in the Department of Anatomy, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. We studied the great saphenous vein with reference to its formation, relation with the medial malleolus, distance from patella, level of termination and variation in its major tributaries. The findings were recorded, tabulated and photographed. Aforementioned anatomical facts including mode of termination of great saphenous vein can be important for surgeons planning intervention in this area. This vein is used as an arterial graft because of the marked anatomical remodeling. Thus, a good understanding of the typical ultrasound appearance of the great saphenous vein, its relationship to the major bony landmarks is significant.

Anatomical observation on draining patterns of saphenous tributaries in Korean adults.
This study was done to identify the normal and variants of saphenous tributaries in Korean adults. The pattern of confluence of saphenous tributaries, medial accessory saphenous, lateral accessory saphenous, superficial epigastric, superficial circumflex iliac and superficial external pudendal veins, was carefully examined in 249 lower limbs (right, 129; left, 120) of embalmed Korean cadavers (...
متن کاملDuplication of great saphenous vein- Anatomical description and its clinical implications
Original Article Lower limb veins are most prone for venous disorders. Complete knowledge of the variations of great saphenous vein is of immense importance in assessment of clinical conditions like varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis and venous ulcer. Duplication of long saphenous vein is one of the potential reasons behind recurrence of varicosity after successful surgery. The present study ...
متن کاملLong saphenous vein and its anatomical variations
Vascular ultrasonography has an important role in the diagnosis and management of venous disease. The venous system, however, is more complex and variable compared to the arterial system due to its frequent anatomical variations. This often becomes quite challenging for sonographers. This paper discusses the anatomy of the long saphenous vein and its anatomical variations accompanied by sonogra...

Background Radiofrequency ablation of varicose vein have gained popularity compared to conventional surgery due to comparable long term results in addition to definite immediate superiorities. This modality has been started in Nepal since August 2003 and the study on short term fate of ablated vein segment confirms the anatomical benefit in addition to the clinical benefit. Objective To analyze...

Editor’s key points † Venous access in infants is a common but challenging procedure due to their small vessel diameter. † The use of ultrasound imaging to guide cannulation of the great saphenous vein was studied in 90 consecutive anaesthetized infants. † Ultrasound guidance resulted in .95% success rate in this preliminary observational study. Background. The establishment of peripheral venou...
